I can’t believe how close we are to meeting our little guy. We are 38.5 weeks & my body is definitely telling us that we will be a family of four in no time. While we’ve been so busy catching up from the crazy past month, we have finally finished the nursery + packed our bags for the hospital.
When we first made our packing lists, I was searching high and low for a good list to go off of. While Pinterest can come in handy for a lot of things, I was finding that my personality and lifestyle wasn’t really matching up with the lists they were providing.
I hope this post helps at least one person when it’s time for them to pack their own bags. Of course, this is our first time + it’s all personal preference but I’m pretty confident going into the hospital with what we have. Maybe we will do a follow up post with what we really used.
We wanted to keep our packing simple & light. Chase was fine using his Herschel Supply backpack, I just used my weekender bag from Sole Society, and then of course, one of my favorite baby products, our Fawn Design Diaper Bag.
– hard candy & gum for labor
-birth plan: we are keeping this pretty simple, we know that nothing will go as planned but we are definitely hoping for immediate skin to skin, alternative natural labor methods if/before an epidural, and a very calm atmosphere.
-clothing options were pretty easy to choose for me. i went with a button up pj set & my dwell by slumber dress for the days after while we are still admitted. both are great for easy nursing accessibility. obviously warm socks, nursing bras & tanks, and a cardigan for when I’m cold. for a going home outfit, i’m keeping it really casual with leggings & a sweater.
-nursing: nipple balm, oat mama bars, relief pads and we plan to take our pump so the lactation consultant can explain it from top to bottom for us.
For Baby Boy:
We pretty much packed his diaper bag for the hospital but also tossed in some stuff that we won’t necessarily use but will always have with us after the hospital. We kept his list super simple.
-we plan to use honest diapers at this time, how cute are these brunch ones pictured? we figure if he’s anything like his mommy & daddy-these will fit his personality perfectly. however, we are just going to use whatever the hospital offers during our stay.
-honest diaper rash cream & tubbytodd dream cream for any spots from birth.
–nail frida clippers. our hospital offers files but have heard from multiple people that you will want to use clippers assuming his nails are sharp.
-swaddles. we love so many but we are taking along two of our favorite brands: little unicorn and a loulou & company swaddle since they are heavier for coming home. we plan to get lots of skin contact those first few days so swaddles will be our bestfriend, along with cute knotted hats.
-going home outfit: i want to say this was something we thought long & hard about but to be honest, we live within like five minutes of the hospital so we are just thinking we will put him in some of our softest onesies by lovedbaby. we are also taking along a few newborn sized outfits too just to be safe since our doctors don’t think he will be very big.
this was seriously way too ridiculously easy but he’s also in charge of all of our stuff so i will be easy on him….
-clothes: he’s taking a pair of sweats & shorts, a few tee shirts, slippers, and his toiletry bag. BAM. DONE.
-a contact list: we broke it down how/when we wanted people to be notified. our time after baby is here is something we want to really soak in so we are keeping our list super short for the first day. we plan to spend a few hours alone as a new family before rushing people in.
-camera: we have a photographer planning to come for birth photos but we know we will be going crazy with pictures soon after birth. we have a cleared memory card, two batteries, and our charger ready to go.
-bose speaker for labor & white noise at nighttime. we decided to put a playlist together ahead of time.
-and one of my favorite items: our promptly journal. this was one of my very first purchases when I found out I was pregnant. it’s a baby book that starts at the time of finding out you are pregnant all the way up to age 18. we plan to have the nurses put his footprints in it and i also want to write down his birth story before sharing it elsewhere.
